Sweetness with a twist…the Bang Candy Company

By Sheri Oneal I don’t watch tv often but on occasion I have found myself completely absorbed in shows like Eat Street, Food(ography), Unique Eats and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives among others… I guess I might be a little obsessed with the travel channel, food network and the cooking channel. My infatuation has led me to want to shoot more images of inspired people doing what they love with food. Being inspired after watching several episodes of Eat Street I did some research on the food trucks in Nashville and was led to Sarah Souther. Sarah moved to Nashville eight years ago from Tipperary, Ireland where she spent a lot of…

A Vet Worth Visiting: Dr. Marc Smith

Over the holiday season, my dog Deisel developed mysterious, chronic shoulder pain. After x-rays and multiple visits to my regular vet, we were told it was likely a pinched nerve, requiring a specialist. My friend Carol Smock of the “Brown Dog Foundation” then referred me to Dr. Marc Smith at Natchez Trace Veterinary Services. Healing Deisel: A Journey to Natchez Trace Veterinary Services After several months of research and trial-and-error treatments, Dr. Smith took a chance and treated Deisel for a tick bite. We had ruled out everything else, and I hadn’t been using Frontline. Within just two weeks of starting his medication, Deisel was almost as good as new!…

    A Visit To Gruhn Guitars

By Sheri Oneal I visited Gruhn Guitars, a downtown Nashville staple that was established in 1970 to photograph owner, George Gruhn. He allowed me to look through the store and shoot whatever I wanted while I was there. I was overwhelmed by how many instruments he had in his inventory including many rare and very expensive musical items. I wanted to showcase the part of George many people might not be aware of with his business and his personal life. George has 25 employees, these include his sales staff and his instrument repair specialist. As George gave me a tour of the upstairs in this historical downtown Nashville location, he…

An introduction to Travis Meadows AKA Uncle Buzzy…

By Sheri Oneal I met Travis many years ago when I used to co-host a writers night at the “Hall of Fame Lounge”, here in Nashville TN. He first contacted me on myspace and then came in one night to play.  I will never forget the first minute of his first song he played for the audience, the place went completely silent and the old coots at the bar who spoke about music in Nashville back in the day actually turned and listened, that never happened. In that moment I knew I would follow and come to admire Travis for a very long time. Now, 6 years later, after years…

    Joe Glaser’s Instrument Repair Business

By Sheri Oneal On Friday, June 25 I made a visit to Joe Glaser’s instrument repair company to pick up some gear he wanted to donate to my ReTune Nashville project.  Joe’s expertise has been said to be the best around and after visiting his facility he certainly has the volume of work to support the claim.  Loving the ability to turn any experience into a photo opportunity, I took along my camera just in case. Joe started by taking me through his entire facility pointing out the flood-damaged gear he was currently working on by such names as Keb Mo, Vince Gill, John Fogerty, and so many others.  I…

    The Launch Of ReTune Nashville

By Sheri Oneal It has been a while since I have blogged, at least here for my photography site. For a little over a month, I have been somewhat preoccupied with a project I started called “ReTune Nashville”. It is a flood relief effort to help raise money for Nashville’s uninsured musicians through the sale of artwork created from flood-damaged musical instruments. For weeks I have been working hard with a team of people to launch ReTune Nashville as a new non-profit. These are several pictures of some of the instruments we have collected for the cause. I will be shooting more as the project picks up momentum including the artist…
