Corporate headshots are changing, and I’m seeing a clear shift in the demand for what business executives want from their professional images.

The Evolution of Modern Corporate Headshots

It seems there’s a growing trend, perhaps it’s the younger generation wanting to embrace their authentic selves, or an older generation realizing that professionalism doesn’t equate to rigidity. Either way, people are increasingly opting for more relaxed and approachable photos for their PR materials.

As a Nashville headshot photographer, I believe that happier, more relaxed expressions in photographs make individuals seem more accessible to clients. Social media marketing has clearly demonstrated that we crave connection with the businesses and people we choose to work with, and a genuine smile can make all the difference. In today’s highly visual world, your professional image is paramount, and a great photograph is absolutely key to making the right impression.

Crafting an Approachable Image: Brian Carden’s Story

Brian Carden, a financial advisor here in Nashville, perfectly exemplifies this shift. He approached me looking for something “different” for his updated website. He told me,

“I don’t want to appear conservative. I wear a suit, but I don’t want to appear stiff in my pictures, and I want something different.”

Brian was collaborating with Robert Land, his “Digital Brand Architect,” who built Brian’s new brand from the ground up. I first met with Robert, and we discussed the kind of image we wanted to create for Brian: something less traditionally “business-like,” yet still highly professional and incredibly approachable.

I decided to shoot at Brian’s home, as environmental portraiture is one of my specialties. I love creating images within a person’s own surroundings because it helps them relax, making my job of capturing their authentic self much easier. My goal is always to reveal something unique about the person, ensuring their body language and eyes convey a sense of ease and genuine connection. I believe we truly achieved that at Brian’s house, and I’m excited to see how his new website and marketing materials come together!
